AI Tools We Actually Use (July 2025 Edition): Granola AI

Welcome to the first post in our NEW monthly series, spotlighting the AI tools we're actually using daily at mmtm, not just the ones we’ve tested and forgotten about.

First up: Granola AI.

What is Granola AI?

Granola is a Mac app that sits in the background during meetings.

It automatically transcribes your meetings by listening to your computer audio and produces short, structured summaries - complete with action items and key decisions.

How We're Using it at mmtm

Right now, Rupert and I are using Granola primarily for our fortnightly one-to-ones with mmtm team members.

We used to always write up a short meeting summary in a shared Notion doc - now Granola does it for us!

It’s also handy for internal sprint planning sessions, especially when someone’s away and needs to catch up later.

Also, we’ve started using it on occasional client calls! Allowing us to share accurate meeting summaries without someone having to scribe.

It’s not a huge, game-changing tool, but it quietly saves us a couple of hours each week, which adds up fast - that's over 100 hours a year of regained productivity 🙌.

Why We Like It

1️⃣ Custom meeting templates

We’ve created a custom template for 1to1s - so meeting notes are consistent and structured the way we like them.

2️⃣ No awkward bot joining our calls

Because it records audio directly from your Mac, it works with Google Meet, Teams, Zoom, Slack - everything! Ideal for businesses like ours where we work across whichever video call platforms our clients prefer.

3️⃣ Excellent onboarding

We ❤️ an intuitive onboarding experience at mmtm, this one is excellent. We even took notes for future client apps!

Minor Criticisms

The only minor gripe is that it only works on Mac, no Windows support yet.
