We Validated Shake Legal's Business Model and Launched Their MVP in Just 6 Weeks

The Vision

Shake Legal came to us with a bold vision: to make online dispute resolution (ODR) faster, fairer, and more affordable.

Austin, their founder, had a powerful idea and a clear business model to achieve two things for his customers:

• Reduce the time and cost of getting to a negotiated settlement.
• Alleviate the stress of disputes for those involved.

This would be achieved through the development of a custom web platform for legal disputes, that uses a blind bidding process to reach a settlement.

In each dispute, the claimant and the defendant each enter 3 proposals for settlement, which are compared - if there's a crossover, Shake would calculate an outcome that would be fair to both sides.

The Challenge

Austin had deep expertise in legal operations but needed a partner to shape and deliver a digital product. He was looking for:

• A rapid, cost-effective route to market.
• A way to validate the concept before building too much.
• A slick, user-friendly product that lawyers and their clients would gladly use.

Our Solution

To optimise concept validation and time-to-market, we began with a Discovery Workshop, followed by a branding phase, and culminating in an MVP (MDP... iykyk 😉) build to start bringing in user feedback.

Design & Branding

Kicking things off with a Discovery Workshop, we dug into Austin’s vision and tested the assumptions behind Shake. This helped us map out user needs and clarify what functionality the MVP should and shouldn't include.

We followed with:

• Product Design Sprint - Using exercises pioneered by Google to create a prototype to show to customers for concept validation.
• Branding Work - Crafting a visual identity that balances trust, neutrality, and modernity.

MVP Development

Once we had a validated prototype, we moved fast. Our cross-functional team built Shake’s MVP in just six weeks - staying laser-focused on the core features that mattered most to early users:

• Invite-only case creation.
• Structured negotiation workflows.
• Impartial mediator roles and permissions.

Shake Today

Shake has now been successfully piloted with legal professionals and clients across a range of use-cases. It’s already showing the power of a modern approach in a traditionally slow-moving industry.
